GET HIS'TOUR'ICAL DURING OKALOOSA COUNTY TOURISM WEEK

The 25th Annual National Tourism Week is scheduled for May 10-18, 2008. The Emerald Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council will celebrate with the theme “Get HisTOURical,” promoting the unique local history and heritage in our area.
The week will kick off with local industry partners’ displays, prizes and refreshments in the Visitors Welcome Center beginning Tuesday, May 13th, and continuing through Friday, May 16th. The Visitors Welcome Center is located at 1540 Miracle Strip Parkway, Ft. Walton Beach.
The week will culminate with a celebration on Friday, May 16th, at the Emerald Coast Conference Center. The event begins at 9 a.m. with a presentation on the history of Okaloosa County, a briefing on the importance of tourism by VISIT FLORIDA’s Vice President of New Product Development, Kerri Post, and a special Native American dance demonstration from the Thunderbird Intertribal Council. All are welcome to this event.
A familiarization tour featuring some of southern Okaloosa County’s historical sites will follow. The tour will stop at the Gulfarium, Destin Harbor & the Destin History and Fishing Museum, the Heritage Museum of N.W. Florida, the Air Force Armament Museum, Heritage Park and Cultural Center and the Magnolia Grill.
The tour is only open to travel industry professionals and requires pre-registration. This program is sponsored by the Emerald Coast CVB/TDC and received financial assistance through a marketing grant from VISIT FLORIDA.
